Alex Otti is a Nigerian economist, banker, investor, philanthropist, politician and Governor-elect of Abia State under Labour Party. Otti is the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, a retail financial institution in Nigeria.

Otti was a gubernatorial candidate of Abia State on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

On 31 December 2015, The Court of Appeal which sat in Owerri removed Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Abia State and declared Otti the winner of the April 11 and April 25 Governorship elections in the state.

On February 3, 2016, the Supreme Court of Nigeria reversed the verdict of the Court of Appeal and affirmed the election of Ikpeazu as Governor.

Otti is a member of the editorial board of Thisday, and writes a fortnightly column, every other Monday, titled “Outside The Box”.

FAMILY

Alex Otti was born on the 18th of February 1965 in the Isiala-ngwa LGA, Abia state to Late Pastor Mr. & Mrs. Lazarus Weze Otti.

Alex Otti is married to Priscilla Otti. Both couple have three Children.

EDUCATION

Alex Otti attended the Ngwa high school and secondary technical school, Okpuala Ngwa in Abia state.

He graduated with a first class degree in Economics from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
He also got an MBA degree from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Alex Otti took some international courses in institutions like Columbia business, Stentford business school and Wharton business school.

He was given a doctorate degree by Babcock University, also an honorary doctor of degree by the University of Port Harcourt and an honorary degree by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

CAREER

Alex started his banking career in 1989 and has worked in banks like intercontinental bank, United bank of Africa, first bank of Nigeria and more.

In 1992, he joined societe bancaire Nigeria limited (Merchant bankers) before moving to the United bank of Africa (UBA) as the principal manager overseeing the bank’s corporate banking sector for the entire south division.

In 2001, he joined first bank of Nigeria as assistant general manager, and was then later appointed as executive director, commercial banking.

In 2011, he moved from First bank Nigeria to Diamond bank as the group managing director/Chief executive officer. He retired from the banking sector in 2014.

He was a Gubernatorial candidate of Abia state under the All progressive’s grand alliance (APGA) in 2015.

Alex was declared as the winner of the election after the court of appeal removed Okezie Ikpeazu of People’s democratic party (PDP), but the decision was reversed by the Supreme court of Nigeria.

Alex Otti is the Labour party candidate for the 2023 governorship election.

In March 2023, he was declared winner as he became the governor-elect after the Gubernatorial of election which was held on the 18th March, 2023.
