A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old businessman, Cho Musa to 30 months in a correctional centre for unlawful possession of five locally made guns.

The Judge, Tapmwa Gotep, sentenced Musa after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The convict was, however, given an option of N40, 000 fine.

The Judge said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. William Awe, had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 7, at the Rantya Police Station, Jos by officers on duty.

The prosecutor said that the convict was found with the locally made guns during a stop and search by Operation Safe Haven, but could not explain how he came about the gun.

The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
