Gov Ganduje pardons 12 inmates on death row in Kano prison

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has pardoned and released 12 inmates on death row and also commuted death sentences of 6 inmates to life imprisonment.
This was made known on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kano Command, Public Relations Officer, SC Musbahu Lawan K/ Nassarawa.
The statement said the Governor equally pardoned four female inmates with long term sentences, based on their good behavior and industries as recommended by the Correctional Authority.
It said some of the pardoned inmates have spent 25 years awaiting execution.
‘’In his speech, the Chairman of the prerogative of Mercy, Abdullahi Garba Rano thanked Ganduje for using the power conferred on him by the Constitution to release the inmates with good behavior at the recommendation of the Advisory council of prerogative of Mercy,’’ the statement said.

‘’Ganduje also gave 5000 Transport fare to each of the released inmates to enable them reunite with their families.’’
The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Sulaiman Mohd Inuwa thanked the Governor Ganduje for decongesting the custodial Center, and called on the released inmates to be good ambassador of the Nigerian Correctional Service in the society and to stay away from any act that can lead them back to crime.
