Christopher Stephen Obong Ekpenyong born 29 September 1954, in Ikot Ukana of Obot Akara local government area, Akwa Ibom) is a Nigerian politician and former Deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State.


He was elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2019 to represent Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.



Christopher Stephen Obong Ekpenyong was born on September 29, 1954 in Akwaibom State.



Chris Ekpenyong was married to Grace Ekpenyong with youngsters. She died in August 2019.



Chris Ekpenyong started his elementary coaching at St. Patrick’s Main College, Ikot Ukana and later to St. Michael’s Main College, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt the place he obtained his First College Leaving Certificates.


In 1970, Chris Ekpenyong attended Authorities Technical College, Port Harcourt the place he obtained his SSCE certificates.


He attended Federal Authorities Technical College, Yaba in 1975.



Chris Ekpenyong joined politics in 1983. He was elected to represent his constituency inside the then Cross River State House of Assembly under the platform of National Party of Nigeria (NPN).


His hold inside the House of Assembly was cut back transient after Regular Buhari toppled the civilian authorities in a Military Coup.

In 1999, he was elected the deputy governor of Akwa Ibom property under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Chris Ekpenyong defeated his closest rival and the incumbent senator Godwill Akpabio of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to be elected to characterize Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial zone.


Chris Ekpenyong had obtained 118,215 votes whereas Godswill Akpabio obtained 83,158 votes.

Throughout the Nationwide Assembly, Ekpenyong is the vice chairman of the Senate committee on Water Property.
