An unidentified helicopter has killed scores of people in an airstrike in Nasarawa State.
The airstrike was carried out along the Nasarawa/Benue border around Rukubi in Doma local government area Tuesday night, our correspondent learnt on Wednesday.
Sources said 27 of the victims were given mass burial in Doma, the headquarters of Doma local government area on Wednesday.
It was also gathered that some of the corpses were moved to Dalhatu Araf Specialist hospital in Lafia, the state capital.
However, the state government and the police authority in the state said 27 persons were killed in the offensive.
The state deputy governor, Emmanuel Akabe, who visited the area on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Sule commiserate with the families of the deceased on the development.
He appealed to herders who were mostly affected against reprisal, assuring that the state government would investigate the matter to ensure that justice is done.
The State Police Command through the Public Relation Officer, DSP Rahman Nansel said the police authority align with the casualty figures provide by the state government.
“The state government has confirmed that 27 persons, mostly herders, were allegedly killed by yet-to-be identified person and the command cannot say anything contrary,” he noted.
