 COCHIN stages road walk calls for qualitative education health for orphans

The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Home In Nigeria, COCHIN, has staged a road walk to create awareness on the plight of orphans as Nigeria will on Monday joins the rest of the global community to celebrate this year’s World Orphans Day, WOD.

Speaking during the 1 kilometre road walk in Abuja, the President of COCHIN, Senator Eze Ajoku expressed concern over the plight of orphans in the country.

Senator Ajoku who said orphans are also Nigerian children and are entitled to good life called for scholarship, quality education and health care delivery as well as access to better living condition.

He stated that the theme of this year’s celebration “A Better Word: Make The Stray Safe” was to further create awareness on how to attain the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs in the areas of poverty reduction, good health, quality educationi, clean water and sanitation, gender equality, zero hunger, affordable and clean energy among others.

The COCHIN President therefore called for the support of Government at all levels, individual and corporate organizations towards making life more meaningful to orphans in the country.

According to him, orphans are not beggars hence the need to treat them with dignity and respect to enable them become patriotic and responsible citizens of the country.

While pointing out that Orphanages is not a business venture but humanitarian services, Senator Ajoku called for special subvention and support from the Federal Government to operators of Orphanages to enable them cater for the needs of the children.

He also stressed the need for Proprietors of Schools and Owners of Hospitals to consider granting discounts to orphans as part of their contributions to their well being and future career.

In a remark, the Founder of Caddash Foundation, Temitope Adeola promised the Organization’s continuous support to COCHIN towards securing a better future for orphans in the country.

She said the Foundation over the years has been granting scholarship to orphans and contribute to their well being in the areas of health, food and shelter.

Some of the orphans who spoke during the road walk thanked COCHIN for its support to them towards realizing their dreams in life.

The road walk also featured riddles and jokes, games and presentation of educational materials, gifts and cash to some of the orphans as well as cutting of the celebration cake.
