Sadio Mane, Senegal forward has been ruled out of the World Cup after limping out of Bayern Munich’s win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday,
According to L’Equipe, Mane had to leave the pitch after 20 minutes of Bayern’s big 6-1 victory, giving Senegal a huge World Cup scare.
The former Liverpool forward will play no part for Senegal in the competition in Qatar after reportedly suffering a tendon injury.
The report suggests Mane could be facing ‘several weeks’ on the sidelines.
Initially, fears were allayed when Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmoeller said Mane’s leg injury was not “too serious” and he should be fit in time for the World Cup in Qatar.
“Sadio Mane was hit on the leg, which caused him a little nerve pain. Nothing too serious and his participation in the World Cup should not be in jeopardy,” Toppmoeller told reporters.
However, Senegal coach Aliou Cisse now has a major potential headache just days before announcing his World Cup squad with Mane key to his countries hopes at the tournament.
Senegal face the Netherlands in their Group A opener on November 21, followed by hosts Qatar and then Ecuador.
