A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Jigawa state, Isah Gerawa, has raised the alarm over what he described as an attempt by mischief makers, to use his statements to create chaos in the state.

PlatinumPost reports that Gerawa, a business mogul and owner of Gerawa Group of Companies had recently made some comments, purportedly against the state government, alleging that it was awarding contracts to non-Muslims.

He accused the outgoing governor of the state, Muhammad Badaru, of “awarding contracts to non-Muslims”.

In viral video clips, believed to be a party meeting at his residence in Jigawa recently, Gerawa was filmed saying “it is unfortunate that the outgoing government in the state was awarding contracts to people who cannot help the people of the state”.

“I have not received a kobo now for four years from Jigawa. I am watching how they are paying non-Muslims who cannot help our people unless to harm them. We want this culture to stop, we are not disliking anyone but we don’t want this culture to continue,” Mr Gerawa said.

“For four years I have not received a penny (contract) from Jigawa Government. If you see me sharing money, I got it from other places but my Zenith Bank account where I am receiving payment from has not received a penny in four years.

“But we are watching how they are paying non-Muslims (contractors) who cannot help our people, we don’t need the continuation of this situation,” Mr Gerawa said attracting a resounding applause from party faithful at his residence.

“We are saying this because we want them to change for the better, hopefully, in the first term of the APC administration, Jigawa will no longer be the poor state in the country,” he said.

“Whoever did the wrong thing, we will say it publicly so also the right thing because we are not afraid of any person. Whoever did the wrong thing by stealing from the public treasury and buying properties abroad, we will tell the public.”

He said the party’s governorship candidate, Umar Namadi, if elected in the 2023 general election, will not allow the trend to continue.

The comments therefore generated uproar from the supporters of governor Badaru, who expressed their disappointments, mostly on social media.

However, the in a swift reaction, a spokesman to Gerawa, Dauda Ali Kura, in a statement on Monday, said the comments that greeted the APC chieftain’s statements were handiwork of mischief makers and blackmailers.

According to him, “Our attention has been drawn to a report by some section of the media aimed at blackmailing and tarnish the good image of Chairman Gerawa Group of Companies, Alhaji Isa Gerawa and create Chios in our dear state Jigawa.

“The report was nothing but an intentional, deliberate and well calculated plans by mischief makers, capitalisimg on some portion of a statement made by chairman at an event to create unnecessary tension,”

Kura admitted that “the said remarks made by the chairman at the occasion was purely out of his love for the people of jigawa state and well meaning citizens, but has nothing to with any religion, tribe, region or ideology as portrayed by mischief makers.

Jigawa is our state, and it is our duty to caution our leaders on what we believe are not going on the right way, but we don’t have any intention to blackmail anybody based on his or her political ideology.

” Gerawa reiterated his earlier statement that, we need to make changes on the way things are going in Jigawa, we need to see that our people are empowered.

“We will continue to be law abiding citizen and respectful to our constituted authorities, and anybody feel hurts by my statement, it is good to note that, is not intentionally targeted at him or her but a coincidence,” the statement assured.
