The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman Baba has sent a commendation letter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Nasarawa, Kano State, Daniel Amah, for displaying uncommon professionalism by rejecting $200,000 bribe.
Amah turned down the temptation to accept the largesse while handling a case of robbery incident involving N320.5 million.
Amah, a Superintendent of Police with force No. 86358, was also said to have exhibited high level deligence in the incident, leading to the arrest and persecution of some individuals, including police officers, linked to the case.
The IGP in the Commendation Letter sighted by PlatinumPost on Monday was presented to the officer by the Acting Commissioner of Police Kano, Deputy Commissiioner of Police Zubairu Abubakar who described Amah’s conduct as a clear display of professionalism worthy of emulation by personnel of the police force.
Supol Amah rejected the lofty largess after a mastermind of a huge scam one Ali Zaki offered him a whooping sum of $200, 000 through a proxy.
PlatinumPost learnt that Mr Zaki sometime in April 2022, swindled some Bureau De Change operators in Kano the sum of N322, 500 Million under the guise that he will provide them with USD at the official exchange rate.
The culprit in cohort with officials of a new generation bank in Kano used part of the money to source for $200,000, and packaged it, while placing the sum of N3 Million cash beneath the USD, delivered to the BDC operators as the equivalent of N322, 500.
However, unknown to them Mr Zaki had arranged with some persons to rob the BDC operators as they make their way out of the bank on Murtala Mohammed way, Kano.
The gang succeeded by intercepting them and collected the momey.
The criminals ran out of luck as operatives from Nasarawa Divsion, Kano, under the leadership of Supol Amah swooped on them and picked them while the kingpin Mr Zaki, was under the run.
Mr Zaki met his Waterloo when he offered Mr Amah with the bribe of $200, 000 through an official of the bank.
The official was apprehended and led operatives to the hideout of Mr Zaki who was eventually apprehded.
The IGP commendation later reads : “Inspector General’s Commendation AWARDED TO AP No. 86358 SP Daniel Itse Amah for maintaining outstanding excellent work ethics, uncommon focus and dedication to duty, and exhibiting sound professionalism leading to the arrest and prosecution of one Ali Zaki and some police officers in a case of an armed robbery involving the sum of three hundred and twenty million five hundred thousand nairas only (N320,500,000.00) as well as rejecting the sum of two hundred thousand United States Dollars(USD 200,000) offered to him as a bribe.”
Amah, who has been lavished with praise for his exemplary conduct, was presented the commendation letter in Kano.
PlatinumPost recalls that the IGP has always assured of his willingness to reward excellence in the police force while at the same time weeding out the bad eggs from the system.
