Kano Police nab suspected kidnapper who demanded N100m from neighbour

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected kidnapper, one Isah Musa, who demanded N100 million from his neighbour to avoid being kidnapped alongside his children.

According to a statement issued by Kano Police spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the 30 years old suspect disguised and conspired with another suspected criminal to threaten his neighbour.

The statement read : “On 31/07/2022 at about 0800hrs, a complaint was lodged by a resident of Makadi Village, Garko Local Government Area Kano State that, he was contacted and threatened on the telephone to pay the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000:00), otherwise, himself or one of his children would be kidnapped. That, they bargained and later on settled at Two Million Naira (N2,000,000:00).

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the command’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abubakar Zubairu raised and instructed a team of detectives led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, O/C Anti-Kidnapping Squad to trace and arrest the culprit(s).

” The team swiftly swung into action. Following credible intelligence and sustained follow-up, traced and arrested the suspect, one Isah Musa, ‘m’, 30 years old, a neighbour and of the same address as the complainant.

” On preliminary investigation, the suspect disclosed that the victim is his neighbour and a friend of his father. He conspired with his friend who lives far outside the State to be communicating on his behalf. They demanded the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000:00), but later settled at Two Million Naira (N2,000,000:00). Case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

“The Command’s Deputy Commissioner of Police thanked the good people of the State for their continuous support and cooperation. He urged residents to continue to pray for the State, and the Nation and to report incidences to the nearest Police Station and not take laws into their hands. Raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the State until all criminally minded persons either repent or are arrested and brought before the law. The Command will continue to sustain the tempo in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in the State.”
