 Vigilante arrests suspected robbery kinpin in Benin

Operatives of the Edo State Vigilante Group in Benin City have arrested a suspected not criminal identified as Papa Ediagbonya, and two others for allegedly stealing woods, three GSM phones, among others at Old Edo College road off wire road on Wednesday night .

Recall that the street, Old Edo College road in Benin City has in the last few months been under siege of armed robbers including cultists, a situation that had resulted in the residents fleeing the area and their houses for fear of the unknown

It was gathered that the suspects allegedly swooped on their victims in house number 14 in the street where at alleged gunpoint robbed them of their belongings before moving out to pack away fire woods of a nearby neighboour during nightfall on the fateful day.

Speaking to Journalists, the Commander of the Vigilante Group, Adekunle Wilson said that the suspects were arrested when of the victims, one Patrick Eghosa in a distress call informed the Operatives the that he was being robbed at gunpoint in his, adding that the suspects were regular faces in the area.

According to him, ” We mobilized to the scene and unfortunately for the suspects, we rounded them up in the house and took them to Airport road police station where they were detained for further investigation”

Disclosing that two cut to size barrels and battle axes were recovered from the duspects, the vigilante Commander disclosed that Papa Ediagbonya and his gang upon interrogation, confessed to the crime saying that it was caused by hunger and lack of employment

Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in Edo State Police Command, SP Kontongs Bello Confirmed the arrest of the Suspects, disclosing that investigation was ongoing with a view to ensuring that on completion the Suspects are charged to court

Sp Kontongs Bello said that the Police Command had zero tolerance for crimes saying that several persons linked with Criminal activities have arrested and prosecuted at law courts in the last few months in the state warning that it will no longer be business as usual for all Criminal elements operating in the State
