 ISWAP launches devastating attack in Suleja kills 3 police officers

Three Nigerian police officers were killed on Thursday, May 12, when an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) cell ambushed a police team in the town of Suleja in Nigeria’s north-central state of Niger, near the country’s capital city.

The group on Friday claimed that it killed four in the devastating attack, causing others to escape and seized two weapons.

However, reports indicate that three policemen and a commercial motorcyclist were killed during the attack.

According to reports, the officers were responding to a distress call when they were ambushed by the gunmen. Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, the Suleja Council Chairman, informed that outlet that three persons, including a vigilante member, survived the attack.

The Islamic State (IS) franchise recently claimed responsibility for bomb attacks in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Taraba and Kogi in the northcentral part of the country.

These attacks are part of the group’s new campaign outside its core areas of operations in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
