Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu, says Rabiu Kwankwaso, will likely emerge the winner of the 2023 presidential election if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fails to zone its ticket to either North-East or South-East zones.
PlatinumPost reports that Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, recently defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
But Kalu, also a former governor of Abia State, said Kwankwaso’s defection to NNPP alongside other prominent politicians should not be dismissed with a wave of hand.
“The recent high profile defections to the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, especially in the North-West geo-political zone should not be taken for granted by our great party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC)
” I’m using this opportunity to reiterate my earlier position that the presidency should go North-East if it can’t be conceded to the South-East for equity and fairness.
” The silent majority who have a working conscience could protest this injustice by supporting Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso to clinch the presidential seat in 2023 if our party, the APC and the opposition PDP field their candidates from any other zone aside South East or North East . This is because when purpose is not known , abuse becomes inevitable.
“It is time to unite and rally round a zone that has not produced the nation’s president since the rotation convention dispensation that began in 1999,” Kalu said in a post on his official Facebook page on Friday.
