2023 Waya Gawuna to compete in APC governorship primaries

A frontline APC governorship aspirant in Kano, Inuwa Waya, has vowed to challenge the nomination of the deputy governor of Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, as the anointed candidate of the party.

The Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje had on Saturday night nominated his deputy Nasir Gawuna and his former commissioner for Local Government Murtala Garo as the party’s consensus governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2023 election.

In disagreement with the decision of the governor, Mr Waya said that he would obtain his nomination form on Monday to challenge Mr Gawuna’s nomination, Daily Nigerian reports

“It is one thing to be anointed, and another thing to be the flagbearer of the party. I’m fully in the race, and the decision taken will not hamper our efforts towards giving Kano a quality leadership.

“We are confident that the APC will give a level playing field for all aspirants to content. And we believe we have all it takes to get the ticket and win in the general election.

“I will obtain my nomination and expression of interest forms tomorrow, and I call on my teeming supporters to remain steadfast, hopeful and rally behind us to get the ticket of our great party, the APC.

“His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is a father figure to all of us, and we believe, in the spirit of justice and equity, he will play a fatherly and statesman role during the party’s primaries,” Mr Waya said.

Mr Waya also dismissed media reports that the governor had reprimanded him over rumours making the rounds that he paid billions of naira to get the party ticket.

“As a matter of fact, the governor never confronted me on this silly issue. It has never happened. I have never given the governor a dime and he has never confronted me over the unfounded and mischievous rumours,” Mr Waya added.
