I m still in charge of KEDCO says guber aspirant

The Managing-Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, Jamil Gwamna, has said that he is still in charge of the affairs of the firm.

He described as baseless, unfounded and untrue, a report that he has been relieved of his duty.

A statement by Ibrahim Shawai, Director of Publicity,  Gwamna Campaign Organisation, said the report, published on Daily Dispatch and OperaNews, is politically motivated.

Mr Shawai said that the report is the handiwork of opposition, who are already terrified over his leading position as political heavyweight and a front runner aspirant of PDP in Gombe State.

“Following the dangerous and toxic report by daily dispatch and OperaNews that the has been relieved of his duties owing to financial mismanagement and incompetence should be noted that such news is baseless, unfounded and untrue.

“The fake publication which is purely politically-motivated to demarket Dr Gwamna being a political heavy weight, a frontrunner and aspirant of the PDP vying for the governorship seat in Gombe should be seen as the handiwork of opposition to Gwamna’s ambition.

“Dr Gwamna who is also the Sardaunan Gombe has made a lot of impact and investments in youth and women and enjoys sheer love of the ordinary people, has been seen by opposition as a serious threat hence, they have resorted to fake publicity to harm his political image,” the statement reads in parts.

The statement added that “first it must be placed on record that both online platforms are known to have flairs for peddling baseless rumours and fake news.

“To put the record straight KEDCO under Dr Gwamna ‘s leadership had made highly impressive achievements building the company to one of the best DisCos in the country, hence the ground that he was sacked on financial mismanagement is nothing but well fabricated lies aimed at suppressing the very impressive CV of Dr Gwamna.

“In view of his political ambition to become the next governor of Gombe State, Dr Gwamna will soon resign to face his political ambition based on the guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) in order to commence full scale political activities.

“However, he has not resign, but will do that and inform the public accordingly and even if he resigns he is still the MD of Sahelian Energy, a company which owns 50% of shares in KEDCO,” the statement added.

Mr Shawai further stated that it should be placed on record also that any news of sack of him would be done through the Board and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and not from unserious online platforms which are the only source of such baseless information.

“It is also good to note that fidelity bank has not in any way take over the management and activities of KEDCO as it was insinuated by the online media.

“These news outlets and their management by this release have seven days to apologise and withdrew such unfounded news or face the legal consequences of this malicious publication aimed at serving whatever interest they so wish,” he said.
