Hoodlums on Saturday disrupted a defection ceremony organised by the Peoples Democratic Party in the Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The event was held to receive defectors across the local government area, who dumped the All Progressives Congress.

In a viral video, people were seen running helter-skelter as the hoodlums stormed the venue.

Reacting to the attack, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the area, Muritala Usman, described the incident as unfortunate.

He blamed the governing APC members for the disruption.

“They are not telling you the truth that the attack was by members of the All Progressives Congress. They were scared of the number of defectors in the local government,” Usman said.

On his part, his counterpart in the APC, Moses Kyari, denied the allegation that his party sponsored thugs to disrupt the activities of the PDP.

Kyari said it was not possible, stressing that it might have been intra-party challenges that were left unchecked.

“That was what I also saw on social media; come to think of it, how can a gathering of over 5,000 people be dispersed by a few miscreants, how is that possible?,” he queried.
