As political actors continue to strategize ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country, Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu, on Sunday met with Mohammed Sani Abacha.
Kalu, who made this known in a post on his Facebook, said he encouraged the Kano-born Mohammed to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Received my long time friend, Mohammed Sani Abacha at my Abuja residence today . I also encouraged him to join the All Progressives Congress and I am hopeful of his kind consideration,” the former Abia State governor said.
PlatinumPost reports that Mohammed Abacha is the eldest surviving son of Nigeria’s former military ruler, the late general Sani Abacha, and he has in recent years shown interest in Kano politics.
The easy-going Mohammed was the governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 Kano governorship election before he dropped out of the race.
Mohammed also picked the PDP nomination forms for the Kano governorship election in 2015 before he stepped down on the eve of the governorship primaries.
He was also said to have contested for the 2019 governorship election in the State on the platform of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA).
It is not however clear if he is willing to join APC which is currently enmeshed in a bitter crisis in Kano State.
