The Alliance For New Nigeria (ANN) on Wednesday collapsed its Ebonyi State structure into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party said it was joining forces with the PDP to rescue Ebonyi from what it termed bad governance and mass poverty.
National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southeast, Dr. Laz Udeze, led the entire state executive committee members in Ebonyi headed by Dr. Hilary Nwele to defect to PDP.
Udeze said the PDP has become the party of the people because those who made it unattractive in the past had left.
He announced the formal collapse of the entire ANN into PDP at Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara Local Government area of the state during a civic receiption in honour of the new state chairman of the party, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie, by the people of Ohaozara.
He commended the leaders of the party in the state for upholding the party despite intimidation and harassment.
“I am happy to announce the total collapse of the entire ANN structure in Ebonyi State into the most vibrant political party in Africa, the Peoples Democratic party.
“I am defecting to PDP with the entire state executive of the party led by Dr. Hilary Nwele, with over 120, 000 members and supporters of the party in Ebonyi State,” he said.
The former Coordinator of Ohaozara East Development Centre, Mrs. Martha Nwankwo, announced her defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP).
The former APC leader in Ugwulangwu said she was joining the PDP with more than 7000 of her supporters.
She said those defecting with her were drawn from the three electoral wards of Ugwulangwu autonomous community.
She said she was defecting to PDP because the party was the only party truly accepted and loved by the people of Ebonyi.
She noted that she was a member of the party until Governor David Umahi forced them into APC in 2020.
“I am pleased to announce my formal defection into PDP today. PDP is the only party in Ebonyi state and in Ohaozara local government area.
“In 2019 we delivered PDP in Ugwulangwu and in Ohaozara local government area. I am promising the party that I will deliver Ugwulangwu and Ohaozara for PDP in 2023 because I did it in 2019,” she said.
Receiving the new defectors, Okorie congratulated them for making what he described as “a good decision” to join the party, which he said remained the only political party in the state.
He enjoined them to hold the party strongly in their localities and to deliver the party in all positions during the 2023 general elections.
