Kano state government has revealed that it will procure 3 boats and many lifejackets to Bagwai town following boat accident that resulted in the death of 29 people in a boat mishap in Bagwai Local Government area of Kano state.
At least 29 people died after a boat, carrying 49 people capsized on their way to Badau town to celebrate Maulud on Tuesday.
The state Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba stated this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council Meeting, held at the government house on Wednesday.
According to him, while 29 persons were confirmed dead, 7 were rescued alive and are undergoing treatment at the hospital,
He said the state government had provided 120 bags of rice, millet, maize, and corn for distribution to the families of the affected persons, adding that 60 bags of sugar and saka would also be shared to them.
Garba added that the sum of N100, 000 would be given to each of the families of the victims, amounting to N6 million.
He also disclosed that the government had set up a committee, under the chairman of the state Chief Narval Officer, Navy Captain Mohammed Abubakar Alhassan, to investigate the incident and provide a possible solution.
The commissioner confirmed that 29 people, including men, women, and children died in the boat mishap, 7 are undergoing treatment at the hospital, while 14 bodies are still being searched.
