Former governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau, senator Barau Jibrin (Kano South) and four other members of House of Representative have written a petition to the national body of All Progressives Congress, APC against the governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led APC in Kano state.
PlatinumPost earlier reported that barring last minute change of mind, three serving senators, four members of house of representatives, other APC stalwarts have perfected plans to break away from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-controlled APC in Kano state.
In a petition signed by Shekarau, now a serving senator (Kano Central) and seven other lawmakers on Wednesday, the aggrieved group said they had been sidelined in the affairs of the party despite investing heavily to its success in the state.
According to them, despite helping APC to win elections in 2019, the party started to plunge into “devastating problems mainly as a result of the failure of the leadership of the party to manage the divergent interests of the party members and leaders.”
The lamented that the senators in the state are not consulted on “any matter concerning the party, adding that a sizeable number of the party stakeholders are neither consulted nor carried along in the party affairs.
They also alleged that the party leadership had jettisoned all promises and undertakings of carrying the party leaders and elders along in decision making in matters affecting the party.
In the petition, the aggried group further stated that “Instead of strengthening fair and democratic internal party mechanism to address the problems within the party through effective management of internal processes, the party leadership left every party issues simply in the hands of certain group of very few individuals whose undemocratic mindset has thrown the party into devastating crisis.”
The aggrieved group therefore resolved that they rejected what they described as purpurted congresses said to be carried out by the state party leadership, at the ward and local government levels in the entire state.
They argued that the local government and ward congresses were exclusive and flagrant violation of all known civilized norms, rules and party guidelines.
“In the circumstances, we in this forum have unanimously resolved as follows,
“That, we reject in totality, the purpurted congresses said to be carried out by the state party leadership, at the ward and local government levels in the entire state because of itt exclusiveness and flagrant violation of all known civilized norms, rules and party guidelines.
“We shall resist any attempt by the state party leadership to carry out state Congress in the same exclusive and kangaroo manner aimed at imposing party officers on the members of the party in the state,” the petition reads in parts.
The group therefore urged the national leadership of the party to urgently take a decisive steps to end the distructive tendencies manifestly exhibited in the management of the party affairs in Kano state.
“We want to assure the national leadership of our support, cooperation and commitment to peaceful resolution of the crisis,”
