No fewer than 47 persons are competing for the vacant stool of the late Emir of Kotangora, Saidu Namaska.
The late emir died on September 9, 2021, and the election of the seventh Emir of Kontagora commenced at 9 am on Sunday [today].
Chairman of the Electoral Committee set up by kingmakers in the emirate, Shehu Yusuf Galadima, disclosed that as of Saturday night, 47 contestants had been screened for the election.
He said the exercise would commence in earnest, adding that all stakeholders are expected to be at the palace.
“All the contenders have been duly informed and every kingmaker has a specific number of votes to cast.
“Before the election, the citation of each candidate would be read in the presence of those participating in the exercise.
“Almighty Allah has chosen the next 7th Emir; ours is just to comply with the system and procedures to give the qualified candidates level playing ground and fair play,” Galadima enthused.
It was gathered that six local government chairmen in the emirate, comprising Kontagora, Wushishi, Rijau, Mashegu, Magama and Mashegu, would attend the election.
Galadima called on the people of the town to remain calm and pray that a trustworthy person who would continued with the good legacies left by the late Emir Namaska emerge as the next emir.
