 Road crash claims 6 lives in Bauchi

Six people have been confirmed killed in a automobile accident in Bauchi State.

The incident occurred on on Thursday along Darazo – Dukku highway.

Our correspondent learnt that the accident involved two vehicles, a commercial vehicle, a Vwolkswagen Bus with registration number: KTG-950ZZ driven by one Ahmad Umar and a Peugeot Saloon with registration number: AKK-53CB with unknown driver.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Bauchi State, Corp Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the crash, said that it was as a result of over-speeding.

He said that the accident involved 18 people, 12 Male Adults, 4 Female Adults and 2 Female Children.

“Immediately we got a distress call, our men from there rushed to the scene of the crash within some few minutes for rescue operation.

“When they got there, they evacuated the victims to the Darazo General Hospital for medical attention.

“It was at the hospital that six people, 5 Male Adults and 1 Female Adult were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“Eight other passengers, made up of 5 Male Adults and 3 Female Adults, sustained varying degrees of injuries. The Police Motor Transport Division in Darazo were also informed,” he stated.

He said the remaining four passengers escaped unhurt.

He said that the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the Darazo General Hospital mortuary and would immediately be released to the relatives of the deceased for burial.

He added that the obstructions on the road were cleared for other road users to have easy passage while 9 mobile phones and N20,590 cash were recovered at the scene of the crash.

Abdullahi advised drivers to drive with caution and within the recommended speed limit especially during this rainy season so that lives and property would be saved from destruction.
