Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State says the Dangote Cement factory, located in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area is set to begin operations.
The governor made this known in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.
The governor who, showed a short footage of the production line of the factory, said, “Dangote Cement’s $1bn Okpella plant comes on stream, sets for commissioning.”
Obaseki did not, however, revealed the actual date the cement factory will be commissioned.
The Dangote Cement’s factory is said to be six million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) facility and sits on a 1000-hectare land.
PlatinumPost reports that the factory will be the second major private cement company to begin operations in Okpella, after its main rival, BUA Cement, began production activities a few years ago.
The two companies have before now engaged in ‘bitter war’ over the control of limestone mining sites located in the community.
