Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has described the Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote as a beacon of hope to poor Nigerians.
This is coming as the Foundation in collaboration with the administration distributed N10,000 start-up capital to 20, 000 women in 20 local government areas of the state.
Governor Mohammed gave the compliment when Alhaji Aliko Dangote, represented by the Group Executive Director of the Dangote Foundation, Engineer Mansir Ahmed, led other top management staff of the Foundation on a courtesy call on him at Government House Bauchi, on Tuesday.
The Foundation was in Bauchi State to flag off the distribution of N10, 000 start-up capital to 20,000 women entrepreneur in the state in collaboration with the state government
“Dangote is a person who has excelled in giving support to people, especially the vulnerable ones in the society,” the governor said.
He said his impact in the areas of education and health where millions of vulnerable women, youth groups, and other Nigerians have benefitted from is something that Nigerian politicians’ should emulate.
“Dangote because of his philanthropist work understands Nigeria better than most of the politicians in the country.” he said.
“He has added value and increased the quality of life of the people,” he stated.
The governor commended the Aliko Dangote Foundation for coming up with a template that will ensue that the beneficiaries of the start-up capital to women entrepreneur women are not shortchanged and the beneficiaries get it.
He assured the Foundation that the state government will continue to collaborate it order to ensure that the people of the state were lifted from poverty, urging the Foundation to invest in the state as it is one of the most peaceful in the country.
Earlier, the Group Executive Director of the Dangote Foundation, Engineer Mansur Ahmed, disclosed that the Foundation commenced the empowerment of 1000 women in each of the 774 local government areas of the country.
Ahmed disclosed that the Foundation was empowering women entrepreneurs with 10,000 startup capital each to improve their businesses.
He revealed that the exercise was briefly stopped due to the outbreak of COVID-19
He disclosed that 13 states have so far been covered in the distribution saying that the remaining 22 states would be covered between now and next year.
“He would have been here personally but he had to be in the United States of America (USA) for an official engagement.
“The purpose is to put the Dangote Foundation is to extend a sense of partnership and to ensure that women entrepreneurs succeed,” he said.
He then thanked the Governor for the support to ensure that women are lifted from poverty and hoped it would open up more collaboration with the state government.
“Besides this empowerment programme, we are aware that you have introduced skills and programmes to enhance the health of our people. Going forward we will work with you to improve the health condition of the people. We are committed to help our young people in education and we are committed to working with your government to 3mpower our educational institutions to get the kind of support they need. Our key goal is investment and where ever we see opportunities we wil work with your government to identify and explore opportunities that will enhance opportunities to create jobs for our people. The areas of investment in cement, agriculture, we will convey to Alhaji Aliko Dangote to explore this opportunities,” he said
