The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has said that he didn’t suspend the Managing Director of Nigeria Port Authority, Hadiza Bala.
Mr Amaechi said the Managing Director was asked by the President to step aside pending the outcome of the investigation.
The former governor of River state who was speaking on Arise TV program ‘Morning Show’ monitored by PlatinumPost exonerated himself from the ordeal of Ms Bala, noting that he doesn’t have the powers to suspend her and that she is not under investigation but the activities of the NPA is under scrutiny between 2016 to date.
“I’m not aware that I suspended Hadiza I’m not the president I don’t have such powers, that power rest with the President.
“I’m not aware Hadiza is actually suspended, what happened I suspect , she was asked to stepped aside to enable investigation to be carried out on NPA not on her.
“We are investigating NPA, on the conclusion of the investigation all the report will be forwarded to the President who will make a determination on the way forward, that is what will happen.
“When will the panel finish? I’m not aware, I don’t know, the panel is headed between the Ministry of Transport and the office of the Head of Service. The office of the Head of Service contributed six persons which includes auditors and accountants so the ministry of Transport brought five persons.
“So is a panel of eleven that was constituted to investigate the activities of NPA from 2016 to the present date.
“There is a panel and I don’t have an opinion I don’t want to influence the panel as well. Like I told you is NPA that is under investigation and the Managing Director of NPA has just been told to step aside pending when the investigation will be concluded and when the investigation is concluded the President will make a determination of what happen next.” He explained.
