President Muhammadu Buhari will on Saturday address Nigerians on this year’s Democracy Day.
A terse statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and obtained by PlatinumPost on Friday evening, said Buhari would give his address in a national broadcast at 7:00am.
“To commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day, June 12, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation on Saturday June 12, 2021, at 7am.
“Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast,” the statement said.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Monday 14 June as public holiday to mark the 2021 Democracy Day.
Nigeria’s Democracy Day was formally celebrated in May 29, the day in 1999 that an elected president was sworn in after years of military dictatorship. But President Buhari, in 2019, changed the Democracy Day to June 12 in honour of the June 12, 1993, presidential election and its winner, Moshood Abiola, who died in prison.
