The Delta state police command on Friday warned against the alleged planned protest by some agitated members of the public on 12th of June 2021, adding that it was also aware that the protest was being staged by criminally minded individuals who are hiding under the guise of peaceful protesters to cause havoc in the state.
The command under the watch of CP Ari Muhammed Ali averred that it will not allow any miscreant to distort the already existing peace in the state.
In a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Edafe Bright, warned members of the public particularly residents of Delta state to participate in such protest.
The command said on no account should any group be seen, gathering or carrying placard in the name of protest, as such will not be allowed in the state.
“Officers and men of the command have been placed on red alert and have been ordered to arrest and deal decisively with any criminally minded elements who wish to go against this order.
” The command is more than ever willing to go after any miscreant who might be found wanting. The Commissioner of police is urging members of the public to partner with the police to see that those who try to bring disunity in the state and our dear nation be arrested and brought to book,” parts of the statement read.
The statement further explained that it was pertinent to state that undercover police detectives have been deployed across the state for the purpose of arresting any person or persons staging any form of protest.
Meanwhile, various youths in Asaba who were allegedly penciled down by some alleged politicians for the hajack of the June 12 prostest have been relocating to elsewhere outside the state were they have resolved to operate under ground.
Investigation revealed that the some disgruntled persons under the aegies of” Concerned youths” for good governernance in the state had last weekend issued a threat that they will make lives unbearable for residents of the state, a threat the police however said was a ruse.
Police Commissioner, Ari Muhammad Ali, who spoke to journalists in Asaba on Friday said “we will crush anyone who wants to cause mayhem in the name of a group. We are very ready to deal with any person who will violates the warnings handed down against any protest in the state,. ”
He also disclosed that 10 suspected cultists armed with battle axes were on Thursday night arressted around Abraka Community, saying they are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
