Fresh crisis looms in Delta State following the deadline issued to tricycle riders for renewal of their licence by a taskforce put in place by the government.
While the deadline is seen as a threat by the tricycle riders, it was gathered that there might be massive protest against the decision by the riders who on Monday alleged fraudulent charges and diversion of their money into personal pockets.
Leader of the tricycle riders in Asaba, Mr Godwin Effiong, who spoke to our correspondent said: “We are poised for massive protest against the renewal license money. We have been paying money and no results from these (Task Force) agents.
” This time around we will not renew any license our papers are okay and up to date. What are we renwing again? We have been paying wrong money to these agents and we will resist this particular so called renewal license stuff. ”
PlatinumPost reports that commercial tricycle riders in Delta State have been given June 2 – June 16 2021 to review and renew their licence and other relevant papers concerning their tricycles.
The two weeks of grace was handed down in a statement by the leadership of commercial motorcycles and tricycles Operators Association in the state at the weekend and was signed by its president, Chief Obi Nzete
The statement warned that the Delta State Taskforce Agents have been mandated to clamp down on any commercial motorcycle whose rider may fail to comply with the directives at the end of the two weeks of grace adding” No handwriting note will be entertained. “
