Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, says the Federal Government has submitted his name to police for possible arrest over his continuous use of Twitter despite the suspension placed on the microblogging platform.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made this known in a terse post on his Facebook page Monday afternoon.
Dino, fondly called DSM by his admirers, said he was number three person on the black list of Twitter’z ban violators prepared by the Federal Government.
“Government list to Police on Twitter ban, my name is number 3. In an unjust society silence is a crime. Please lets start,” Dino said.
PlatinumPost reports that Nigeria’s information minister, Lai Mohammed, had on Friday announced a ban on the activities of the microblogging platform after Twitter deleted a controversial post by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mohammed also ordered the NBC to “immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.”
The government’s decision, which saw to telecom companies blocking access to Twitter, prompted many Nigerians to bypassed the blockage through the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access the microblogging platform.
The Federal Government also threatened to prosecute any individual still using Twitter, a threat that some prominent Nigerians, including Dino Melaye, have ignored.
