The Bauchi State government has described as fake news, the report of Boko Haram presence and attacks in the state.
Recall that Daily Trust newspaper on Monday reported that Boko Haram insurgents have infiltrated the Northeast state and even launched attacks on some communities.
In his verified Twitter handle, the state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Aminu Gamawa said during the security meeting, held on Monday in Bauchi, only the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was discussed in the meeting.
He added that there was no mention of Boko Haram presence or attacks in the state, adding that the state government is taking proactive measures to improve security in some Local Government areas.
The tweet reads as this; “Fake News Alert: The security meeting held today in Bauchi discussed the issue of IDPs from Gaidam, Yobe State. The state pledged to support them. There was no mention of BH presence or attack in Bauchi. We are just taking proactive measures to improve security in some LGAs,”
In the same vein, the Commissioner tweeted a screenshot of an apology by the Daily Trust where it admitted that it had reported erroneously that Boko Haram infiltrated the state.
