A prominent monarch in the northern part of Nigeria, Emir of Lere, Garba Abubakar Mohammad, is dead.
He died on Saturday at the age of 77.
A family source in Kaduna confirmed the death on Saturday morning.
He was appointed the 13th Lere emir on January 30, 2011.
He was governor of Sokoto State and ex- president of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.
He was born on April 15, 1944 in his hometown Lere.
He attended Lere and Soba Primary Schools between 1951 and 1958 before proceeding to the Barewa College Zaria from 1959 to 1963.
He was at the Ahmadu Bello University between 1965 and 1966 before proceeding to the California Polytechnic in the United States.
