Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute politicians who allegedly diverted the sum of N4.5 billion meant for the construction of Soro-Miya road in Bauchi Central.
Mohammed made the call in Bauchi during the flag-off of the Itas- Gadau road by governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.
“The Miya road has been encumbered by corruption because some people who are calling themselves leaders have collected money and pocketed it,” he said.
“Those who perpetuated it are members of the APC and are even occupying elected and appointed offices.
“We are calling on the EFCC and ICPC to make sure that they investigate what we have sent to them on the Soro Miya road because over N4. 5 billion has been collected . The fight against corruption has its way and there are people that are sacred cows but certainly Allah is all seeing.
“The EFCC must prove critics wrong that there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption in his administration by arresting and prosecuting all the politicians in the ruling party who pocketed that money meant for the construction of that road.”
Mohammed assured the former Senate Majority leader, Abdul Ningi, who hails from Bauchi Central that his administration would reciprocate the support of the people of the zone by ensuring that all the roads in the area are fixed.
“The Central zone has been shortchanged over the years by successive administrations. The only roads transversing the Central zone are the only roads going to other places.
“Ningi you led my campaign and it must make you proud by making sure I do what you want and doing your aspirations of Nigerians and the people of Bauchi Central.
“We are doing three raods within the first tenure but l assure you that the other ones will be done either by myself or anybody, we have set the pace. ”
The governor explained that the road, flagged off by Governor Makinde covered 24.5 kilometers and was procured using the best procurement means.
“We have gone through the necessary procedure of procurement to make sure we get all the money and the road will cost us about N8. 5 billion naira and it is going to last 25 months and it is going to cover some of the most difficult terrain in Bauchi with about three bridges on a topography that is essentially marshy. but one of the richest topography in northern Nigeria”
Earlier Governor Makinde applauded the governor for the massive road projects executed in two years saying Mohammed was making the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) proud.
