The death cases of COVID-19 have reached 100 in Kano state, day after PlatinumPost reported that the infection numbers were climbing up to the strategic figure.
Data posted by the Kano State Ministry of Health on its verified twitter handle on Saturday night shows that state had recorded additional one death case of the disease, making it 100 since recording index case in April last year.
The data, posted at 9: 30 pm also shows that the state had recorded 10 fresh cases out of the 436 test results received on Friday, February 19, 2021.
In the data, the active cases in the state had reduced from 231 to 203, just as 36 additional patients were discharged, putting the figure at 3,306 discharged patients from 3,646 confirmed cases since recording index case in the state.
The data also shows that the number of total sample taken in the state had reached 71,624.
The state has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of second wave of the virus in November where it recorded about 47 deaths.
The Coordinator, COVID-19 Technical Response Team of the state, Dr Tijjani Hussein, while making presentation on the epidemiology of the disease in the state recently, urged people to strictly comply with the preventive protocols, aimed at reducing the rate of cases in the state.
He called on the general public to embrace wearing face mask, frequent hand washing and observing social distance.
The state government had recently inaugurated 2000 COVID-19 Marshals, who would engage in persuading and even punishing people found flaunting the COVID-19 protocols in the state.
The marshals had been patrolling the city alongside some security agents to ensure compliance to the government’s order, as mobile courts had been set up to prosecute offenders.
