Rampaging gunmen operating across Delta State at the weekend reportedly invaded Bomadi local government area and abducted one Henry Gomeromo, a leader in the area.
Eyewitness Felix Tamunor said that the gunmen struck during nightfall after shooting sporadically into the air severally before getting hold of their victim in his residence and whisked him away to an unknown destination in their vehicle with conflicting plate numbers.
Sources in the community who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said” They were shooting sporadically before when they invaded the area and after shooting seriously, they were able to get the community leader and took him away to an unknown destination and up until now they have not established ransom contact with us for us to negotiate. ”
But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, who confirmed the kidnap of the community leader, said that the police were however working hard to ensure his release unhurt adding that” We are aware of the kidnap of the community leader and we are working hard to ensure his release unhurt from the hands of the hoodlums.
“We have had over six persons reportedly kidnapped in the last few weeks in Bomadi and Burutu local government areas. We have observed that these areas are flash points for kidnappers. ”
In another development, a miracle was witnessed at the weekend after a teenage girl who had been missing for days, was found alive in a soakaway pit in Abraka Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
The missing girl identified as Blessing Ineh, was declared missing on new year day when her parents sent her on an errand and did not return until a search party was conducted after informing the police in the area
DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed that the missing girl was found with white chalk all over her body, a situation that indicated that she may have been kidnapped by Unknown gunmen in the area
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the alleged kidnappers of a six year old girl in Abraka Community identified as Courage Ejiro as the lady and her lover were arrested during the weekend in the same community.
Courage Ejiro was allegedly kidnapped by a woman and her lover two weeks ago as she was kept for six days in their den and was subsequently released after a ransom of N800,000 was allegedly paid to the abductors in their hideouts.
She was seen in Benin City and taken to the police station.
DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed that the woman and her lover were arrested, adding that they are currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department ( CID Asaba) for further investigation.
