AfDB President marks New Year with 90-year-old mum, shares heartwarming pictures

President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Mr Akinwumi Adesina, on Sunday took to Twitter to share some heartwarming pictures he took with his mother in the New Year.

Akinwumi, who was elected for a second term as AfDB President last year, expressed joy to be with his 90-year-old mother.

“It is such a joy to be with my sweet Mum. She is 90 years old. What a treasure. Happy New Year Mummy. I love you. Always your baby, Akins,” the bank chief tweeted on his verified Twitter’s handle, @akin_adesina.

PlatinumPost reports that the Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture, was unanimously re-elected to serve as the President of AfDB for a second term of five years in August 2020.

Akinwumi’s election came on the heels of accusations of corruption and favouritism against him- of which, he has since been exonerated following an internal inquiry by the bank’s ethics committee.

In spite of the dismissed allegations, the bank – although its reputation did take a hit, managed to maintain its triple-A evaluation from the rating agencies.
