The Commandant of Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano, Zanna Ibrahim, has decorated newly promoted senior officers of the institution with their new ranks.
Speaking at the ceremony, Zanna, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), said the promotion, which is on merit based, was an indication that the officers are committed to service and discipline.
He enjoined them o to reciprocate the gesture of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, with more dedication to duty, loyalty, diligence, discipline and professionalism in their respective conduct.
The Commandant, who also presented financial and material rewards/incentives to retired and serving instructors of the academy, expressed delight to have witnessed three sets of promotions in which staff of the Academy are beneficiaries.
Two cadets, who demonstrated their passion for creativity, reading and learning were also recognized and rewarded financially by the commandant for preparing the draft version of the school’s anthem under the supervision of their former course officer, CSP Umar Isa Bado.
Zanna assured of his readiness to always rededicate himself to service, especially in facilitating the developmental strides of the Academy in line with people-oriented modern policing.
While saying that policing in Nigeria is bedeviled with so many challenges and negative narratives, the Commandant tasked the officers to always operate within the confines of the law and in line with best global practice to turn around the narrative.
Speaking further, he reminded the officers of the paradigm shift from traditional policing to community partnership approach by ensuring that policing is community driven and citizens oriented with respect for human rights and dignity of person.
Highpoint of the event was the symbolic decoration of seven Chief Superintendent of Police with their new rank while one Assistant Superintendent of Police was also decorated as Deputy Superintendent
The Commandant was assisted in the decoration exercise by the Commissioner of Police, Courses /Training, the acting Coordinator and other deputy commissioners of police in-charge of directorates of training, discipline and professionalism.
