
Nigeria on Saturday submitted the instrument of ratification for the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement (AfCFTA).
The move, which prepares the country for the take-off of the continental trade pact, will see to more goods from other African countries flowing into Nigeria while the country will also boost its export activities under the single AfCFTA market.
The submission of instrument of ratification was made known in a string of tweets by AfCFTA Nigeria on Saturday morning.
The tweets: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria. today 5th December 2020, submitted the instrument of ratification for the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa
“The ratification instrument was submitted by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Amb. Richard Adeola, Charge D’Affaires Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the African Union and Mr. Francis Anatogu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Sector Matters, and Secretary of the National Action Committee on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
“This momentous event follows on the heels of the Federal Executive Council’s recommendation to His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari to ratify the AfCFTA Agreement.
“Nigeria, with this very step, becomes the 34th African nation to deposit their instrument of ratification, a move that finally solidifies her mission to lead a single market for goods and services.”
