The former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has reacted to ongoing clampdown on promoters of ENDSARS protests in the country.
The politician, who doubles as rights activist, said described the government’s decision to freeze the personal bank accounts of the #ENDSARS promoters as well as arresting them as counterproductive.
“Freezing the accounts of #EndSARS protesters, seizing their passports and arresting them is a betrayal of the Government pledge to dialogue;and unhelpful to the cause of peace in the country,” Sani tweeted on his verified Twitter’s handle, @ShehuSani, on Saturday.
PlatinumPost reports that some #ENDSARS promoters had their accounts frozen by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday while about six others were remanded in prison custody for embarking on protest.
The #ENDSARS movement, which has resulted in the scrapping of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), is aimed at ending police brutality, extortion and harassment.
