The Coordinator, Directorate of Media Operation, Major General, John Enenche has explained how the 47 soldiers who were ambushed by terrorists in Gorgi Village, Borno State died.
He said the Armed force were in a fluid conflict situation and the troops were out there at the frontlines.
He explained that between March 21 and March 23, 2020, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, were on clearance and fighting patrol operation to Gorgi in Borno State which was successfully done but during consolidation they were ambushed by elements of Boko Haram Terrorists.
“Sadly, we suffered some casualties in the unfortunate attack. However the Air Component of OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE scrambled immediately and provided Close Air Support to the ground troops.
“While the Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform as well as the fighter jets engaged the Boko Haram Terrorists immobilising killing some of the terrorists and also immobilizing a gun truck. Some others who attempted to withdraw, were also mopped up by the jets in follow-on attacks.” He added.
Major General Enenche said this on Tuesday while briefing some journalists in Abuja on the update of the Armed Force Operation across the country.
He described the attack by the terrorist which resulted to the death of the soldiers as unfortunate.
While commiserating with families of the Soldiers, he said the fallen heroes have paid the supreme price in the course of defending their fatherland.
He, however, assured that the armed forces will continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of the nation.
“We assure Nigerians that the Armed forces and other security agencies in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North East and other parts of the country will continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of our nation” he said.
