The Speaker of Edo state, Frank Okiye, has tested positive for Coronavirus.
This is coming after the state governor Godwin Obaseki went into self isolation while awaiting his test result, following the news of Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff’s status.
According to Blueprint, the deputy governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, disclosed this to journalists in Benin.
He said Okiye who recently returned from the United Kingdom had gone into isolation, adding that a test carried out on his sample showed positive.
The deputy governor said the speaker is the index case in the state whose identity was not revealed on Monday.
Shaibu stated that the speaker’s wife and daughter who had closed contact with him however tested negative.
“the state task force on anti-COVID-19 has successfully tracked 64 percent of 111 persons on the contact tracing list.”
Shaibu further disclosed six persons are currently being isolated while five samples have been taken for test.
“The governor had met Senator Mohammed at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and also visited Mr. Kyari at the National Economic Council (NEC) meetings
“Although, the governor is not showing any symptoms of the virus, he has taken the necessary precaution to self-isolation in a bid to protect people that may otherwise come in contact with him.”
