The Federal Government of Nigeria has postponed the 2020 National Sports Festival (NSF), slated to hold between Sunday, March 22, 2020, and Wednesday, April 1, 2020, in Edo State.
The Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, made this known in a series of tweets on his twitter handle @SundayDareSD on Tuesday.
This postponement he said was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari after his discussion with him over the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“Following the briefing of Mr. President from me and the Minister of State for Health on COVID-19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports festival to a future date,” he tweeted.
The coronavirus which has been declared a pandemic has spread across 26 African countries.
The spread of the coronavirus is causing organizations and countries to shut down activities as the World Health Organisation has advised that crowded events be avoided.
