A Kano-based Photographer, Balarabe Uba popularly known as ‘Balancy’ on Saturday organised a Kano Hikers Fitness walk, with the theme, ‘Say no to illicit drugs and spouse killings’.
Speaking to newsmen Uba said that the fitness walk which was the second of its kind, was organised to show concern over the high rate at which spouses are being murdered and the use of illicit drugs in the state.
“Drug abuse is on the increase and we find it necessary and important to organise a fitness walk to enlighten the public on the dangers of the social vices and at the same time to exercise our bodies and keep fit.
“As you can see, youths in their hundreds graced this walk carrying placards and banners with various inscriptions on all forms of social vices.” he said.
Uba also urged the government to involve all stakeholders in the fight against such social vices, stressing that “together we can join hands and bring sanity to our societies’ ‘.
One of the participants, Ms Zainab Malik, said she felt rejuvenated urging the organisers not to relent their efforts on such public enlightenment and fitness walk.
Abu Shettima, a participant from Sokoto State pledged to organ8se similar programmes in his State, describing the walk against the spouse killing and drug abuse as a welcomed development.
According to him, the enlightenment campaign will enable the public to know more about the dangers associated with soc8al vices in the society. (NAN)
