Fresh facts have emerged why President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved the former Managing Director of the Niger/Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Gbene Joi Nunieh of her position.
Platinum Post gathered that Nunieh ran into troubled waters after she refused to adhere to presidential directive on forensic auditing of the NDDC aimed at repositioning the outfit.
The highly placed source cited three major reasons why the former NDDC boss was fired by the President.
For instance, she was accused of not cooperating with the Minister of Niger/Delta Dr. Godswill Akpabio for the forensic auditing of the organisation as directed by the President as he aimed at repositioning it for better service delivery to the people of the Niger/Delta better.
A clear example of alleged her misdemeanor was when Minister Akpabio unveiled the coordinating forensic auditing firm at the Minsitry for Niger/Delta conference hall in Abuja.
Nunieh was conspicuously absent at the forum whilst two acting Executive Directors of the board were present, the Acting Executive Director Finance and Administration Chief Ibanga Etang, Acting Executive Director Projects, Dr Cairo Ojougboh
Her absence gave credence to insinuations that she wasn’t comfortable with the forensic auditing of the organization, thereby disobeying the directives of the President.
Another reason Platinum Post learned caused her position was the alleged forgery of her NYSC discharged certificate.
The source revealed that Buhari wasn’t comfortable with the allegation on the certificate forgery, trying to avoid anything that will dent the image of his administration, especially, with the furore, the certificate scandal of former minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun generated before she was forced to resign her position.
It would be recalled that in a press statement recently a civil society group, ‘Niger Delta Anti corruption Coalition (NDAC), called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the acting Director over alleged certificate forgery.
When the news of her alleged certificate forgery broke out she was running helter-skelter to the Minister and the Presidency to save her.
A typical example of the desperation to save her face was when Akapabio visited Port Harcourt on January 27th, 2020 to open the 15th federal Government Colleges games hosted by Federal Government College Port Harcourt.
Nunieh allegedly waited to see the minister at the airport for over three hours to pacify him to intervene in her case.
The last thing that sealed her fate was when she hurriedly allegedly constituted her contract verification exercise committee instead of cooperating with forensic auditing firm as directed by the President.
This singular move of hijacking the forensic auditing job and her alleged highhandedness where she sidelined the other Executive Directors.
Effort to speak to the former NDDC boss failed, all her telephone lines were not going through..
Nunieh was equally accused of running the organization like a sole administrator without consulting any of her team players, which prompted the President to sack her.
It would be recalled that President Buhari sacked Nunieh earliar today (Wednesday) and approved the enlargement of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), replacing Nunieh with Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei, as Acting Managing Director.
The President also increased the members of the committee from three to five persons, including Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, Ag. Executive Director (Projects); Mr. Ibanga Bassey Etang, Ag. Executive Director (Finance and Administration); Mrs. Caroline Nagbo (Member); and Cecilia Bukola Akintomide, OON, a former Vice President with African Development Bank, (Member).
Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei the new Ag. Managing Director is a Professor of Medicine at the Niger Delta University, and former Provost, College of Health Sciences of the institution.
